Open Letter

Dear Girl I Almost Hit With My Car,

I'd like to sincerely apologize for giving you the scare of your life. I feel dreadful and have no excuse for why I almost severely injured you today. Although my mind is pre-occupied with thoughts of strangling my mechanic for charging me $885.00 today to fix my car, on top of the $1,000 I've already paid to have my car "fixed", that is no excuse for potentially causing you bodily harm...even though the mechanic also cracked my windshield in the process of "fixing" my car and says he didn't do it...no, that is still no excuse for my mind to be wandering whilst behind the wheel of a 1 ton vehicle.

Even though I'm pre-occupied with thoughts of kicking my own ass for buying a German car 5 years ago, I still should have been paying attention and should have seen you in your lovely coat crossing the road at the crosswalk. And even though my Volkswagen has eaten up my entire savings and I can no longer take that trip to Ireland I was hoping to take in the Spring or buy any Christmas presents for any of my loved ones this year or buy that new sweater I was eyeing at Target the other day...your life and well-being (as well as the lives and well-beings of other pedestrians) are far more important than any ol' savings account...and trips to Ireland...and presents for my loved ones...and sweaters from Target.

You may also ask why I didn't pull over to apologize. Well, I am asking myself the same thing. I feel utterly ashamed for not doing so - but I suppose in the heat of the moment I was embarrassed and confused and also quite frightened you would rip me a new one. If it makes you feel better, by the look you gave me I sensed you were ripping me a new one in your head, so at least that's something!

Anyway Girl I Almost Ran Over, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. If I knew who you were I would be more than happy to bake you a pie or do your laundry for a month.

Sincerely,
Me

P.S. If it's any consolation, I was once almost hit by a bus on my way to the deli.
